Lower School

The Lower School consists of Pre-Prep, Prep 1 and Prep 2. The children in Pre-Prep finish the Foundation Stage and once they enter Year 1 they begin a more formal type of schooling whereby they undertake the demands of Key Stage 1.

1

Children are taught by form teachers for all their main subjects but PE and Music are taught by specialists in these areas. There is an obvious difference in the teaching styles as the children move up the classes and a healthy rate of progress is reflected by our excellent Key Stage 1 results achieved at the end of Year 2.

Children develop at different rates and the beauty of small classes and expert tuition ensures that no child ‘slips through the net’.

2

Considerable weight is placed on improving reading and writing and we cut no corners in ensuring sufficient time is devoted to practising and understanding basic phonics and word building. Some children are naturally more able than others but there is a clear expectation for all children to achieve their best and we create a culture of self-discipline and responsibility.

The curriculum covers a wide and diverse range of learning. Children enjoy experiencing new subjects and the recent introduction of French throughout the whole school has proven popular.
