Nursery

The Nursery is very popular at Notre Dame Prep School. Not only does it have all the facilities that one would expect at any nursery, but it also has the great advantage of being an integral part of the school. It is not simply a tag-on to the main school and the children mix and play with older boys and girls in a special family way.

Children at the Nursery feel secure, valued and confident and develop a sense of achievement through learning. They are encouraged to think and talk about their learning and develop self-control and independence. They have access to a properly equipped environment led by qualified and experienced teachers and supported by assistants.

Children are taught to be sensitive to the needs of and respect the feelings of others. They must learn to take turns and share fairly. They are taught to treat living things with care, and respect the property of others. They are encouraged to show their feelings in response to experiences. We aim to deepen their faith in God and in Jesus Christ.

To provide a foundation for literacy, children are helped to acquire competence in English as soon as possible. Thus the focus is on the children developing confidence in talking and listening.

Important aspects of mathematical understanding is covered and children learn to use and recognise number to 10 and begin number operations i.e. addition and subtraction.

Children are helped to develop physical control, improve and explore creativity through art, music and role play.

Basic knowledge of The World around Us helps children to see themselves in the context of others.

At the end of Nursery, the children move up to Pre-Prep class.
