Pastoral & Wellbeing at Notre Dame Prep School

At Notre Dame Prep, pastoral care is at the heart of all we do.

It is more than just ‘being nice’ to people; it is about putting the needs of the children at the centre of our school’s operation. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and recognise that all staff and governors have a duty to do this at our school. This includes looking after both physical and mental health, promoting self-esteem and allowing children to grow into independent, confident and emotionally literate young people.

Our small class sizes allow our staff to provide the highest level of pastoral care and we nurture individual strengths, whether academic, musical, sporty or creative. Equally important is encouraging the confidence to ‘have a go’ and take risks, with the reassurance that it is okay to get something wrong – an essential life skill!

Happy children are engaged and eager to learn. At Notre Dame Prep, children are happy and safe and staff make sure that our children’s mental health is nurtured. The children integrate well with each other and any challenges are quickly spotted and resolved.

A Supportive and Active Community

From the House system to the School Council, we empower every pupil to lead and succeed.

All children from Pre Prep to Prep 6 belong to a school house, collecting house points for their achievements throughout the year. Our fun and competitive house events give children the opportunity to work with mixed aged groups, with the older children taking leadership roles, teaching and supporting the younger pupils.

Our oldest children are given many leadership opportunities, enabling the voice of our children to be heard and valued. These roles include our School Council, from Prep 2 to Prep 6, our House Captains, Mini Vinnies, Monitors and Prefects.
